Final Major Project
This was the collection I created for the end of my degree, I wanted to combine my passion for baking with ceramics to create a baking set that not only easily fulfils its purpose as well as having a contemporary look.
These pieces start out as digital designs, allowing me to test many configurations before physically making them, I then 3d print them to create a perfect replica that can be used repeatedly to create my moulds. I use the process of slip casting so I can create multiple, this process also lends itself to bakeware as it makes it easier to create functional pieces. In addition, slip casting means I can share it with lots of people and everyone can have the joy of baking and own bakeware that they want to use and create with.
The flavours of the bake influence the colours that I use on the piece in order to encourage the flavours to come through during the baking and eating. To get the best colours I tested many different colours using varying amounts of stain for each test until I found four that worked together well. I want these pieces to become a part of your home and fit into your baking routine, being easy and comfortable to use, making you want to use them.
Baking evokes emotions of safety and nourishment; recipes are handed down the generations and become family heirlooms, the baking becomes a ritual of process. I wish to enhance this familiarly to have specific bakeware connected to recipes; I seek to produce sleek, modern and beautiful cookware to enhance this. Just as you form a connection to a recipe, I want people to be able to form a connection to my pieces, as bakeware is a tool that you can use to create delicious things and share with other people.
Food connects people together and I want people to have something that they enjoy using and creating with, this is what I want my bakeware set to embody.
